How to withdraw money from EPF account without having UAN

EPF

Universal Account Number (UAN) is a 12-digit unique number allotted to an EPF member. It is a permanent number and remains valid throughout the life of a member. Your employers can generate UAN. In case of a change in employment, previously allotted UAN may be provided by the employer.

The purpose of UAN is to enable a member to access their PF balance, check and withdraw it at any time without the help of the employer. Even applying for a loan against the PF balance becomes easy if you have UAN. However, there are instances where the employee is added to the EPF list much later and so they do not get a UAN. If a person started working before 2014 and their employer did not open a UAN, they might not have their UAN,

While UAN is required to check EPF balance or withdraw money from EPF account, it possible to do so without UAN as well.

How you can check EPF balance check without UAN number:

Step 1: Log in at EPF home page of epfindia.gov.in

Step 2: Click on 'Click Here to Know your EPF Balance”

Step 3: You will be redirected to epfoservices.in/epfo/. Go to “Member Balance Information”

Step 4: Select your state and click at your EPFO office link

Step 5: Enter your PF Account Number, name and registered mobile number

Step 6: Click on 'Submit' and your PF balance will be displayed.

How to withdraw EPF without UAN:

If you do not have your UAN, you need to do is fill a PF withdrawal form and submit it with the regional provident fund office to without money from your EPF account. You can find out the jurisdiction of your PF office with the beginning alphabets of the PF account number (that indicates the state and location). The PF number can be found on your monthly salary slip.

However, remember that without a UAN, you will have to follow the old method of PF withdrawal which involves the submission of identity attestation by a bank manager or gazette officer or magistrate or previous employer. In order to do this through an online application, you will need an activated UAN which should also be linked with your Aadhaar, PAN, and bank account.

For submission of the physical application, you need to download the Aadhaar-based new composite claim form or the non-Aadhaar composite claim form. You can fill it up and submit the application directly to the regional PF office, without the attestation of an employer.

Composite claim form (Aadhaar) is a single-page form for settlement of PF final withdrawal, pension benefits and PF non-refundable advances. It can be submitted in both online as well as offline mode and does not require attestation of the employer. This form is applicable in cases where employees' complete details in Form No-11 (new), Aadhaar number and Bank Account details are available on UAN portal and UAN has been activated.

In the case of a non-Aadhaar composite claim form, you need to fill it up and get it attested either by any bank manager, a Gazetted Officer, or a Magistrate. After filling it up, submit the form in the respective jurisdictional EPFO office.

Not having a UAN just makes the process of withdrawal more time-consuming and not impossible. You can withdraw your EPF money totally or partially depending upon your requirement. Full EPF withdrawal can be done after the employee's retirement or if they remain unemployed for more than 2 months. In addition, if a member has been unemployed for 1 month, they can withdraw 75 per cent of their total PF money from the pension fund. readmore
