Connect Live 2020 are now open! - Mr and Mrs Tamilan



All over the world, Local Guides are on a mission to help people find the places worth discovering and the experiences worth having. To celebrate the stars of our global community, Connect Live is back and will be better than ever. Our fifth flagship global event will be held from October 11 to 14 in the Bay Area. There, Google will host 200 Local Guides Levels 5 and above from around the world. Before you apply, please note that the event will be delivered entirely in English to best serve our global community.

Applications to attend Connect Live 2020 are now open!

Submit your application by 8:00 p.m. GMT on March 30, 2020 to be considered. If you apply, you will receive an email about the status of your application by May 18. If you're not sure if you successfully applied and can't wait for the email, just revisit this page and if you're not prompted to apply again, your application has been received.

To apply to attend Connect Live, you must be an active Local Guide Level 5 or higher and submit a complete application which includes a 1-minute video and a post on localguidesconnect.com. 200 attendees will be selected for an all-expenses-paid trip based on their applications, active contributions on Google Maps, and involvement in the Local Guides community (like being active on Connect or hosting meet-ups). Before you apply, please note that the event will be delivered entirely in English to best serve our global community.

What is your selection criteria?
Applications are open to Local Guides Levels 5+ during the application period.

Applicants will be selected based on a number of factors including, but not limited to:

A 1-minute video message responding to ONE of the prompts provided. Prompts are: Show us around your favorite place on Google Maps and explain what makes it special or tell us how you discovered the Local Guides program and how it has impacted your life. A new post on Connect that answers: What is the most interesting thing you've done as a Local Guide, or, what does the Local Guides program mean to you? Post your response using the Local Stories topic. Here's how to write a great Connect post for Connect Live 2020.
A new list created on Google Maps about any theme, including a title, description, and at least five places. Here are tips for creating a Google Maps list to apply for Connect Live.
We’ll also be looking for:
High-quality, well-rounded, and consistent contributions on Google Maps over the past 12 months
Consistent involvement with the Local Guides community such as actively contributing on Connect or hosting meet-ups
What is the age requirement to apply for Connect Live?
All Connect Live attendees must be at least 21 years old by the event start date of October 11, 2020. That is because 21 is the legal drinking age in the United States and alcohol will be present at some events. No exceptions can be made.

What makes a good application video?
Local Guides should give us a glimpse of their personality while responding to one of the prompts below. Get as creative as you’d like, but your video does not need special effects or treatments. Most importantly, be yourself!

For your application to be considered, you must submit a working YouTube video link. The video may be set to “public” or “unlisted,” but should not be set to “private.” You must speak on camera in English. Your video should be as close to 60-seconds as possible, without going over. Your post should use the Local Stories topic. Good Connect posts include a clear and attention-grabbing title, photos, and descriptive information about your topic. We recommend writing between 300 and 700 words. Here's how to write a great Connect post for Connect Live 2020.

What makes a good list?
Lists on Google Maps should include a theme, an informative title, and a helpful description. The best lists include at least five places and comments about each one.

Why do you require us to share a video, a Connect post, and a list?
Submitting this information helps us to get to know you better so we can consider your application and learn what makes you a stand-out Local Guide.



Will you pay for my travel and visa or ESTA?
Flights, transportation, and hotel stays on primary arrival and departure dates will be arranged and paid for by Google. Meals will be covered by Google during the duration of the event. Visa or ESTA fees for one application will also be paid for by Google. However, attendees will be responsible for securing visas on their own, though if necessary, will be provided with an invitation letter to aid with their application.


What happens after I submit an application?
When an application is submitted successfully, applicants will see a thank you message on their screens, as well as receive a same-day confirmation email. The Local Guides team will email you if you’ve been selected by May 18, 2020.

When will the selected applicants be notified?
Selected applicants will be emailed by May 18, 2020.

Will I be told if I haven't been selected?
All applicants will receive a decision email by May 18, 2020. If you don’t see an email from us, be sure to check your spam folder. Keep an eye out for future events and announcements by keeping in touch with Local Guides on Connect, Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube.
